Darrel Edson Johnston, Sr.
Darrel E. Johnston was the son of Clyde William & Dolly Edna (Gilmore) Johnston. He was born on November 21, 1920 in Eaton Rapids, Eaton County, Michigan, USA.
Per the 1930 U.S. Census (dated April 19, 1930), he was 9 years old and living with his mother and step-father (Duane Elmer Torrance) at 321 Francis Avenue North in Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.
Per the 1940 U.S. Census (dated April 10, 1940), he was 19 and still living with his mother and step-father at 321 North Francis Avenue in Lansing. He did not have an occupation listed.
On September 5, 1940, Darrel enlisted in the U.S. Army.
Sometime around 1942, he married Mardelle B. Schmitke, daughter of Walter Adolph & Flossie M. (Smith) Schmitke.
On July 2, 1945, he was released from military service.
Per the Lansing City Directory, in 1946, Darrel and Mardelle were living at 431 N. Foster in Lansing. His occupation was listed as an inspector for the Fire Department. His step-father had been employed by the Lansing Fire Department for many years.
On November 13, 1994, Darrel passed away, at the age of 73, in Lansing, Ingham County.
