Vera I. (Shaver) McFarland/Keesler


Vera I. Shaver was the youngest child of Melvin Burdett & Emma J. (Raymond) Shaver. She was born on October 4, 1908 in Charlotte, Eaton County, Michigan, USA.

On October 8, 1928, she married Howard G. McFarland, son of James B. & Grace M. (Ryan) McFarland, in Charlotte.

Together, Vera and Howard ran the Hitching Post in Guliver, Schoolcraft County, Michigan from 1954 to 1968, when Howard passed away. After Howard's death Vera remained as the manger of the Hitching Post until 1980.

Vera remarried a Mr. Keesler sometime after Howard's death (in 1968).

Vera passed away on September 8, 1997, at the age of 88, in Grand Haven, Ottawa County, Michigan. Per her obituary, she was buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte in Eaton County; however, a headstone for her and her first husband, Howard, can be found at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique, Schoolcraft County.

Together, Vera & Howard had one known child:
