Emma J. (Raymond) Shaver

Emma J. Raymond, daughter of Kingsley & Sarah Ann (Green) Raymond. She was born in November 1878 in Chester Township, Eaton County, Michigan, USA. Conflicting sources indicate she may have been born in Minnesota.

In Carmel Township, Eaton County, Michigan on November 17, 1897, she married Melvin Burdett Shaver. Melvin was the son of Joseph Watson & Agnes Colista (Palmer) Shaver. Their marriage was officiated by M. J. Weaver, Minister.

Per the 1900 U.S. Census, dated June 9, 1900, Melvin & Emma (and their son Clinton) lived in Caramel Township on the farm land next to her parents. It is possible that Melvin worked on her father's farm.

In the Spring of 1910, per the U.S. Census for that year, Melvin, Emma, and their four children lived in Eaton Rapids, Eaton County. Melvin continued to be a farmer.

She was widowed on September 17, 1916, when Melvin died of Typhoid Fever in Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan. He was buried at Maple Hill Cemetery, in Charlotte, Eaton County.

On June 1, 1918, Emma remarried William Sharp in Charlotte. William was the son of Richard & Emma (Collinwood) Sharp.

The 1920 & 1930 U.S. Census Records (dated January 9, 1920 & April 7, 1930) indicate that they resided at 405 East Henry Street in Charlotte in Eaton County. William's daughter, Ruth Sharp, resided with them in 1920 (she was 9).

Per the 1940 U.S. Census, dated April 9, 1940, Emma was widowed and working as a laundress out of her home (still 405 East Henry Street) in Charlotte, Eaton County.

Emma passed away on February 22, 1960. After her death, she was buried next to her first husband, Melvin.

Together, Melvin & Emma had four known children:

Clinton Deland Shaver [1900 - 1982]

Mylo Leland Shaver [1902 - 1981]

Ernie E. Shaver [1907 - ?]

Vera I. (Shaver) McFarland/Keesler [1908 - 1997]
